Waters ACQUITY UPLC CSH130 C18 1.7 µm particles contain a low and carefully-defined concentration of positive charges that yield comparatively excellent peak shape for peptides using either FA- or TFA-containing mobile phases. The fact that the performance of a CSH130 C18 column exhibits little dependence on strong ion pairing agents makes it ideal for LC or LC-MS applications. This kit includes one ACQUITY UPLC CSH130 C18 column and one vial of Cytochrome C Digestion Standard (P/N 186006371). The standard is included to be able to immediately benchmark the column upon receipt and can be reordered as a separate part for continued monitoring. Each batch of digestion standard is prepared under strict quality control criteria confirmed on the included certificate of analysis.
Charged Surface Hybrid [CSH] Particle Technology
CSH™ Technology is the next evolution of UPLC® and HPLC particle technology. It affords outstanding batch-to-batch reproducibility, extended pH stability and seamless transferability between UPLC, analytical HPLC and Preparative HPLC system platforms.
Powered by CSH Technology, the ACQUITY UPLC® CSH and XSelect™ HPLC column families provide separation scientists with a wider range of selectivities as well as industry-leading performance in simple, LC/MS-friendly mobile phases.
The progression and evolution of materials science has led to significant advances in chromatographic materials, the most recent of which being hybrid particle technology. Hybrid-based packing materials offer exceptional peak shape and efficiency as well as industry-leading chemical stability. Charged Surface Hybrid [CSH] Technology is the latest advancement in hybrid materials that utilizes a controlled, low-level surface charge to provide enhanced selectivity and exceptional peak shape, particularly in low ionic-strength mobile phases.
The 1.7 µm Charged Surface Hybrid (CSH™) particle is Waters third generation hybrid particle technology. Based on Waters Ethylene Bridged Hybrid (BEH) particle technology, CSH particles incorporate a low level surface charge that improves sample loadability and peak asymmetry in low-ionic-strength mobile phases, while maintaining the mechanical and chemical stability inherent in the BEH particle technology.
The advantages of CSH Technology UPLC chromatography columns include:
- Superior peak shape for basic compounds
- Increased loading capacity
- Rapid column equilibration after changing mobile-phase pH
- Improved batch-to-batch reproducibility
- Exceptional stability at low and high pH
CSH particle technology is also available in HPLC particle sizes (3.5 and 5 µm) in the XSelect™ family of HPLC columns, enabling seamless transfer between HPLC and UPLC® technology platforms.
ACQUITY UPLC columns
ACQUITY UPLC columns are the most technologically advanced LC columns ever created and are the only columns designed, tested and certified to withstand the pressures of UPLC Technology. Based upon the highly efficient 1.7 µm Bridged Ethyl Hybrid (BEH) particles and 1.8 µm High Strength Silica (HSS) particles, these columns are the first and only columns that allow separation scientists to achieve maximum speed, sensitivity and resolution without compromise. The particles and chemistries of the ACQUITY UPLC column family were carefully chosen to produce the ideal combination of ultra-performance efficiencies, wide pH range and complementary selectivities. ACQUITY UPLC BEH columns and ACQUITY UPLC HSS columns are the only columns recommended for use with ACQUITY UPLC Systems.
There is more to creating a UPLC particle than synthesizing a small particle. Many HPLC particles do not possess the mechanical stability and structural integrity to withstand UPLC operating pressures (e.g., 15000 psi/1000 bar). Why is pressure tolerance important? In order to realize the efficiency gains of sub-2 μm particles, the ability to routinely operate at higher linear velocities (e.g., higher flow rates) is required. These higher linear velocities combined with small, sub-2 μm particles result in higher operating backpressures. Waters has created two highly efficient, pressure-tolerant UPLC particles: the 1.7 μm Ethylene Bridged Hybrid (BEH) particle and the 1.8 μm High Strength Silica (HSS) particle.
