  • HF (Binder-free adsorbent, Fluorescent indicator UV254)

Silica Gel H & HF UNIPLATES™ – Binder Free

Silica Gel H & HF UNIPLATES contain no calcium sulfate binder. The adsorbent contains a small amount of colloidal silica which aids in the adherence to the glass plate.

Key Features

  • Silica H - 20 um dia. average / 60A pore
  • 20x20cm Glass-backed
  • Pre-scored
  • 250um Silica layer
  • Binderless (very soft)
  • For use with phospholipid applications or similar
  • Dipping not recommended (spray reagents only)
  • All typical chromatography solvents (20% max water)

Silica H Type TLC plates are made with a slightly larger particle silica than the original “Classic” TLC plate.

These particular Silica Gel H TLC plates are typically only used in phospholipid applications and other rare instances. Binderless TLC plates such as these are not typically needed unless it is discovered that the binder in other plates is hindering your separation. That is why we refer to them as “last resort” TLC plates.

They use no binder to adhere the adsorbent to the glass backing and thus have an extremely soft surface. Because of this they require extra caution during use to prevent damage to the layer, which would affect chromatography. However, these special plates are sometimes required when the separation being run is sensitive to the presence of any materials other than silica gel in the chromatographic process.

They are compatible with aggressive visualization techniques such as sulfuric acid and high heat charring. The lower water tolerance is due to the lack of binder in the plates. Dipping procedures are not recommended but most spray techniques are acceptable.

NOTE: For Silica H plates that are not as fragile and work with non-phospholipid applications, refer to CAT# P10001.
