Combustion/Reduction Tube for Nitrogen Analysis, Stainless Steel. During CHNS/O analysis, the samples are dropped by gravity into the combustion or pyrolysis tube. Temperatures in the combustion furnace approximate 950°C (1000°C for pyrolysis), where samples are burned in an atmosphere of pure oxygen. Products of combustion include CO2, H2O and NOx (SO2 is formed in the CHNS mode and CO in the oxygen mode). The combustion tube is packed with various chemicals, such as silver tungstate on magnesium oxide, which remove contaminants from the sample. PerkinElmer combustion tubes are composed of pure fused quartz which is 99% Si02. Fused quartz has been chosen because of its very high purity and low thermal expansion rate. Because we care about your safety, all combustion tubes are pressure-tested to eliminate any tubes which might contain weak spots. In addition, stringent specifications are used to insure that the combustion tubes fit in an airtight connection when placed in the analyzer.
