Repromer RCX columns utilize ion-exchange principles. The stationary phase (the material inside the column) has charged functional groups (sulfonate groups in this case) that attract molecules of the opposite charge in the sample.

These are polymeric columns containing a fully sulfonated styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer crosslinked with 8% strong cation-exchanger. These columns are particularly useful for separating sugars, sugar alcohols, and organic acids.
