Triton X-100 Wetting Agent, 100mL. This nonionic detergent is used to solubilize membranes. Polyethylene Glycol p-tert-Octylphenyl Ether C22H38O5, C14H21(OCH2CH2)4OH Triton® X-100 is a nonionic detergent, 100% active ingredient, which is often used in biochemical applications to solubilize proteins. Triton X-100 has no antimicrobial properties. Triton® X-100 is a nonionic surfactant which has a hydrophilic polyethylene oxide group (on average it has 9.5 ethylene oxide units) and a hydrocarbon lipophilic or hydrophobic group. The hydrocarbon group is a 4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)-phenyl group. It is related to the Pluronic range of detergents marketed by BASF. The pluronics are triblock copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The part formed from ethylene oxide is more hydrophilic than the part from propylene oxide. It is very viscous at room temperature and is thus easiest to use after being gently warmed. Triton® X Series surfactants are versatile nonionic surfactants recognized for their wetting, detergency, superior hard surface, metal cleaning and excellent emulsification performance. TRITON X Series surfactants are used in almost every type of liquid, paste and powdered cleaning compound, ranging from heavy-duty industrial products to gentle detergents. They are important ingredients of primary emulsifier mixtures used in the manufacture of emulsion polymers and stabilizers in latex polymers. TRITON X Series surfactants are recognized for pigment wetting and stabilization in coatings and are offered in a range of HLB to match specific wetting and dispersing requirements.
