Purification Sample Management

Comprehensive and flexible solutions for HPLC sample management

From high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) sample aspiration and injection to fraction collection, Waters provides easy-to-use sample management options.

Waters offers an array of easy-to-use advanced sample managers to accommodate automated purification systems, including the 2707 Autosampler, 3767 Sample Manager (Injector/Collector), Manual FlexInject Module, Manual Prep Injector Kit, and Preparative Chromatography Rack, for flexible, easy-to-use purification sample management.

A flexible autosampler that manages sample injection from both microtiter plates and/or vials. It can also be configured for biocompatible or preparative scale injections. The 2707 Autosampler is a versatile, compact sample management system that makes highly precise and reproducible injections of samples into your LC or LC-MS system. It is ideally suited for laboratories where reduced carryover, maximized repeatability, high accuracy, and application flexibility are the primary focus.

Adaptable and reliable fraction collection

Collecting purified material from your liquid chromatography (LC) system, especially in a user-friendly and cost-effective way, can be a challenge.

Waters Fraction Collector III is an easy-to-use, standalone, or software-controlled fraction collector designed for use with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and LC-MS applications. Compatible with flow rates as high as 300 mL per minute, the Fraction Collector III handles a wide range of adapter racks and related collection vessels. Its flexible design accommodates a variety of fraction sizes, whether you are collecting to microtiter plates or multiple containers.

Overview

  • Multi-purpose functionality in a small footprint
  • Flexible collection racks and vessel options accommodating a variety of fraction sizes whether you are transferring or collecting to microtiter plates or multiple containers
  • Able to accommodate flow rates as high as 300 mL per minute
  • Multiple collection modes – from simple time/threshold based to more advanced collection such as pooling of repeated runs – allow for maximum control and usability
  • Intuitive keypad and view screen make setup easy
  • Review results in real time, or via a post-run results table
  • Compatible with the LC Prep 150 System, LC Prep AutoPurification System, and Modular Systems
  • Remote management with MassLynx Software for mass spectrometry (MS) applications

Recommended Use: For flexible collection of a variety of fraction sizes, designed for use with HPLC and LC-MS applications.

Several modes of collection

Fraction Collector III offers several simple to advanced modes of operation for fraction collection, including time, threshold, volume, manual, and sampling. These modes of operation can be combined to allow for advanced fraction collection, such as pooling of repeated runs into common vessels.

Peak detection and collection using an analog detector input from a liquid chromatography (LC) system permits fully automated collection of the peaks of interest. The diverter valve in the system enables you to collect peaks without extraneous solvent and/or unwanted peaks (which are diverted to waste), maximizing fraction collection efficiency and overall preparative LC system productivity.

For maximum control and usability, you can control the Fraction Collector III from a local keypad or through serial port communication by Empower 3 or MassLynx Software.

Top image: Peak collection based on peak number discrimination allows you to detect up to 99 peaks and designate up to 10 of those peaks for collection. You can program an absolute value above which peaks are detected, and then specify the peaks you want to collect. Bottom image: Peak collection based on slope value discrimination for use when there is a large drift in the baseline. Collection begins when the slope of the signal exceeds the preset value entered by the user and continues until the signal slope falls below the preset value.

Integrated instrument control software interface

Control of the Fraction Collector III is accessible through a new instrument control software interface that integrates seamlessly with Empower Software control components. The user can use the interface to configure collection vessels and program collection routines. Real-time feedback from the Fraction Collector III indicates the state of the collection process and the location of the collected fractions.

Multiple collector rack configurations (including custom configurations) accommodate a variety of collection vessels. If the user needs to override collection control, the interface enables software-assisted manual collection through its override function, directly from the instrument control panel.

Integrated control panels offer consistent instrument control interfaces to view data by year, month, and day.

SOFTWARE

Empower

From acquisition to real-time monitoring and total results management, you’ll never be more than a few clicks away from the purification answers you are looking for.

Controls the Waters Fraction Collector III (WFC III), enabling the user to configure collection vessels and program collection routines; Real-time feedback from the fraction collector indicates the state of the collection process and the location of the collected fractions - Perform these different collection techniques:

  • Collection of everything with time slicing
  • Time-based collection of specific segments of the run
  • Collection of eluent between triggered fractions
  • Detector-triggered collection based on: Threshold / Slope / Slope and threshold

Purification Sample Management System Components:

  • 2707 Autosampler – A flexible autosampler that manages sample injection from both microtiter plates and/or vials. It can also be configured for biocompatible or preparative scale injections.
  • 3767 Sample Manager (Injector/Collector) – A high-capacity sample processing system that easily and automatically manages concurrent sample injection, collection of peak fractions, and fraction analysis on a single HPLC or LC-MS platform.
  •  Manual FlexInject Module – The FlexInject includes analytical and preparative valves with a manual selector valve. It features the reliable 7725 analytical injector with a 100 µL sample loop and the 3725i preparative injector configured with a 5 mL sample loop. Additional loop sizes can be ordered separately.
