- Widest range of bonded phases.
The original Exsil 100 range was developed to provide an alternative to Spherisorb type products. The extensive range of bonded phases includes novel phases such as the ODS-B and Octyl-B which are so deactivated that they can chromatograph strong bases in buffer free eluents. The range of phases continues to provide a comprehensive selection for all standard applications.
This is a reversed-phase column with an octadecylsilyl (ODS) stationary phase that is highly base deactivated. This deactivation allows for the chromatography of strong bases without the need for buffers in the eluent.
- ODS-B: This signifies an ODS (C18) column with enhanced base deactivation. This means the silica surface, which typically contains silanol groups (Si-OH) that can interact with basic compounds, has been modified to minimize these interactions.
- Reversed-Phase Chromatography: ODS columns are commonly used in reversed-phase chromatography, where the stationary phase (ODS) is non-polar and the mobile phase is typically a mixture of water and an organic solvent (like acetonitrile or methanol).
- Base Deactivation: The primary advantage is the ability to separate basic compounds without the need for buffers in the mobile phase.
- Versatility: These columns can be used for a wide range of applications, including the analysis of pharmaceuticals, environmental samples, and other complex mixtures
- Good Peak Shape: The base deactivation helps to minimize peak tailing (broadening of peaks) for basic compounds, leading to better resolution and quantification.
Alternative to other base-deactivated phases: The Exsil ODS-B columns are often compared to other popular base-deactivated phases like Hypersil BDS. - Alternatives: They are often used as an alternative to classical spherical HPLC silicas and can be a good substitute for Spherisorb columns.
- Exsil 100: Columns with a pore size of 100 Å Angstroms (10 nm)
