The Exsil 80 range has a higher surface area and greater retention than the original Exsil 100 which in some instances provides a better alternative to Spherisorb.

New is the addition of a 1.5μm ODS phase to allow faster separations of current applications. When used with appropriate hardware, efficiencies of over 200,000 plates/m are achievable in 3 to 5 cm columns. The range of phases continues to provide a comprehensive selection for all standard applications.

Exsil 80 C8

C8 columns are characterized by their octyl (8-carbon) chains, which provide a less hydrophobic surface compared to C18 columns (which have octadecyl or 18-carbon chains). This difference in hydrophobicity affects the column's ability to retain and separate different compounds.

• C8 Stationary Phase: The column packing material is chemically modified with octyl (C8) hydrocarbon chains.
• Reversed-Phase Chromatography: Exsil C8 columns are used in reversed-phase chromatography, where the stationary phase is non-polar (hydrophobic) and the mobile phase is polar.
• Intermediate Hydrophobicity: Compared to C18 columns, C8 columns offer less retention of hydrophobic compounds due to their shorter alkyl chains.
• Application Areas: C8 columns are suitable for separating a wide range of compounds, particularly those with moderate polarity, and are often used as a good alternative to C18 columns for certain applications, including pesticides and pharmaceuticals.
