Dr. Maisch Exsil 100 SAX, 5µm, 100Å, 100g bulk material for HPLC Columns
Product Number: 5136529.0100
- 100 Å
- 0.52 cc/g
- 208 m2/g
- Type A Silica and Bonded Phases
- Alternative to Spherisorb
- Available in 1.5, 3, 5 and 10 μm particle sizes
- Widest range of bonded phases
The original Exsil 100 range was developed to provide an alternative to Spherisorb type products. The extensive range of bonded phases includes novel phases such as the ODS-B and Octyl-B which are so deactivated that they can chromatograph strong bases in buffer free eluents. The range of phases continues to provide a comprehensive selection for all standard applications.
These columns are known for their high efficiency, reproducibility, and cost-effectiveness. They are often used in analytical chemistry for separating and analysing various compounds.
SAX (Strong Anion Exchange) columns in HPLC are used to separate anionic compounds based on their charge. They are typically silica-based columns with a positively charged quaternary ammonium functional group chemically bonded to the silica surface, allowing them to interact with negatively charged molecules. These columns are compatible with aqueous and low pH mobile phases and are particularly useful for analysing smaller organic molecules like nucleotides and organic acids, as well as larger biomolecules like proteins.
- Stationary Phase: SAX columns contain a silica-based material with positively charged quaternary ammonium functional groups attached to the surface.
- Separation: Anionic compounds in the sample mixture will interact with the positively charged stationary phase based on their charge and hydrophobicity.
- Elution: Anionic compounds are eluted from the column by changing the mobile phase conditions, such as increasing ionic strength or changing the pH, which disrupts the interaction between the analyte and the stationary phase.
- Applications: SAX columns are widely used in pharmaceutical analysis, environmental analysis, and analysis of biomolecules. Separation of nucleotides and organic acids, Analysis of oligonucleotides and proteins, Purification of biomolecules, and Separation of sulfated disaccharides.
