MEGA Comprehensive Two-Dimensional GCxGC MEGA-2D Columns Line

MEGA snc has developed a new column called MEGA-2D: this extraordinary product is a column that has in the same capillary tube 2 stationary phases in series, different from each other by chemical nature and if desired by thickness. Below is a figure that represents more clearly how this special column is made; numerous works in collaboration with l 'University of Turin (Department of Drug Science and Technology - Via P.Giuria, 9) have been published to highlight the advantages deriving from the use of MEGA-2DTM columns especially in the technique of the Comprehensive Two-Dimensional GCxGC.

In this way you can work without having to use any connection between the two columns in the first and second dimensions. In a normal GCxGC configuration, a portion of the deactivated tube is usually also used, above which the so-called modulation takes place, to avoid unwanted deformation of the slices due to the fact of modulating directly on the stationary phase. With the MEGA-2D column, therefore, avoid having connections or potential and often real dead volumes that can certainly influence the goodness of the analysis and above all constitute points of loss that can not only compromise the repeatability of the analyzes but also damage the instrumentation (think of a GCxGC-MS system)! The MEGA-2DTM columns can be easily used with all types of modulator currently on the market in an extremely simple way not having, as mentioned, connectors to be installed!

The use of the same diameter in the first and second dimensions in GCxGC has been extensively investigated (download the posters in PDF format), showing that a more larger diameter column in the second dimension (as in the case of the 0.25mm inner diameter MEGA-2D column) leads to many advantages when analyzing certain classes of compounds. The load capacity of the second dimension in fact increases, allowing to have peaks of Gaussian shape and not with shapes distorted by overload. This allows to identify traces of analyte that are precisely at very abundant peaks in the samples with a very variable concentration of compounds (typical example is the field of Flavors & Fragrances).

In addition, the use of the same diameter allows you to work with the optimal flow both in the first and in the second dimension with a better exploitation of the resolving capacities of the column and the entire system.

MEGA-2DTM columns are available with each internal diameter (applications of MEGA-2DTM columns with other internal diameters such as 0.10mm and 0.18mm will be released soon) and with any combination of stationary phase, lengths and thicknesses of the films. On the column are permanently marked the end of the phase in the first dimension and the beginning of the phase in the second dimension for greater ease of use.

In addition to being revolutionary products in the field of GCxGC, MEGA-2D columns can also be an extraordinary tool in the field of traditional GC. In fact, being able to realize any combination of length and thickness for each phase, it is possible to obtain columns with specific tuning in terms of selectivity for particularly critical applications,not solvable otherwise with phases available on the market (shortly, even for these applications will follow explanatory and demonstration publications).

Finally, it is recalled that in addition to this new revolutionary product MEGA sells columns for GCxGC also selling individual pieces of columns for second size. In fact, it is possible to order pieces of 1m column of 100 microns i.d. for specific needs (minimum order 5m, joined or already cut into pieces to the desired size).
