The Scherzo family of columns is one of the most unique and versatile series of columns on the market today. These multi-mode columns utilize reversed phase, cation and anion exchange, as well as normal phase modes all on the same column, virtually eliminating the need for ion-pairing reagents. Ideal for the simultaneous analysis of polar and non-polar analytes from vitamins, to metabolomics saving time and resources.

Multi-mode ODS Scherzo C18 columns consist of ODS ligands which have reversed-phase mode, plus anion and cation ligands which have anion/cation exchange modes. Three kinds of Scherzo columns have individual ion exchange capacities to find the best column for target compounds which have different ionic properties. Moreover, hydrophobicity between Scherzo C18 and Unison UK-C18, a conventional ODS, is similar, so these columns can be used as comparisons during method development.

This metal-free column is an Imtakt original design. The entire internal surface of these columns are made with PEEK material, including the frits, and is therefore extremely inert with respect to chelating compounds. The outer portion of these columns are made from stainless steel (SS316) making them suitable for extremely high pressures, and are UHPLC compatible. 

Phosphoric compounds can interact with the exposed metal surfaces within the column causing peak tailing, as seen in the figure to the left.

Imtakt's metal-free columns are designed to specifically improve these poor peak shapes by decreasing unwanted secondary chelating effects.

Improving peak shape of chelating or phosphoric compounds
Chelating and phosphoric compounds often have difficulty with poor peak shape and/or sensitivity due to undesired interaction between metal parts in the column and the structure of these compounds. Imtakt's UHPLC compatible metal-free columns, which are an Imtakt original design, will improve these
problems and are available in a wide range of stationary phases.
